Tokina has just released the new atx-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF lens, this is the third revision of the lens, superseding the AT-X 116 PRO DX & DX II. It maintains the same 11-16 focal range, just shy of the 11-20 F2.8 Pro DX lens.
The lens is designed for APS-C sensors, has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and is available in either Canon EF or Nikon F mounts.
New ATX-i series
The new lens introduces a new series, leaving behind the AT-X (Advanced Technology-X) abbreviation, and adding the “i” which stands for “interactive”.
With the new name, comes a new design. A mostly black exterior, dropping the gold highlights and labelling. The lenses are almost identical in size and weight (555g to 550g), with both having a 77mm filter thread.
The atx-i model features two aspherical glass elements and two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements to minimise distortion, manage spherical aberration and astigmatism. The lens seems identical to the AT-X 116 Pro DX II.
It also features an anti-reflective multi-layer coating that improves light transmission and minimizes reflections while water-repellent coating makes wiping and cleaning the surface of the front glass element easier.
Video Production
The Tokina atx-i 11-16 CF is a nice option for video production, with an ultra wide focal length, comparatively lightweight, has internal focus motors, fixed aperture and minimal focus breathing. For gimbal work, the Tokina 11-16mm has been a popular choice for many.
