GoPro HERO8 Black announced

GoPro has just announced the brand new HERO8 Black for USD $399.99. Unlike the HERO7, only one model has been announced.

As far as frame rates and resolutions, it is pretty similar to the HERO7 Black, capable of shooting up to 4K60.

A small but big change with the GoPro is the built-in mounting. You will no longer need to add any sort of accessory to use the GoPro with the wide range of 3-prong accessories.

HyperSmooth 2.0

GoPro’s HyperSmooth stabilisation was introduced on the HERO7 Black last year which delivered nice results. With the HERO8, GoPro is announcing the next version with HyperSmooth 2.0.

HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilisation is now available in all resolutions and frame rates.

TimeWarp 2.0

TimeWarp has been updated, with new automatic speed ramping and single button slow downs.

New Expansion Mods

In addition to the wide range of GoPro mounting accessories, GoPro is introducing a new housing called the Media Mod which features a 3.5mm Mic Port, HDMI-Out port, USB-C port & two cold shoe mounts. Together with the Media Mod, you can add the Display Mod and Light Mod.

The Media Mod has a USB-C port which creates a breakout for the additional ports.

The Shotgun Mic is part of the Media Mod but you do have the 3.5mm mic port for an external microphone.

The Display Mod adds a flip-up screen which connects to the HDMI port on the Media Mod, perfect for vloggers.

The light mod features ten LEDs and attaches to the GoPro or can be used standalone.

Pre-order for the Media Mod ($79.99 USD), Display Mod ($79.99 USD) & Light Mod ($49.99 USD) will be available in December 2019.

The Media Mod is interesting, with many new competitors like the DJI Osmo Action & Insta360 X, GoPro has had to provide something new.

The GoPro HERO8 is available for pre-order at $399.99 USD.
