Cartoni was showing their new Red Lock Tripod at IBC 2019. The Red Lock is a lightweight, budget tripod that has been designed for shooters who want to work quickly and efficiently.
Red Lock is a two-stage aluminum tripod that can be used for high and low shots, and everything in between. Having a tripod that can go very low takes away the need to carry around an additional baby leg tripod.
The tripod can go to a maximum height of 153 cm (60″) and a minimum height of 50 cm (19″).
In a nice touch, the Red Lock tripod can also accommodate both 75mm and 100mm heads by simply changing the inner composite ring. This is a smart move by Cartoni because it lets you customize the tripod depending on the weight requirements of your camera set up.
One day you might want to use a 75mm head with a lightweight camera, and the next you may want to switch to a 100mm bowl head to run a larger camera package.
The Red Lock tripod weighs in at 3kg (6.6lb) and it has a payload capacity of 60kg (132lb). What you do need to keep in mind is that the payload capacity of the cameras you can use will depend on what tripod head you choose.
Cartoni have made new rubber feet for the tripod to increase stability.
There is also a Smart Spreader that allows you to set up & fold the tripod quickly. It works by using an innovative ring that folds the tripod and spreader with a single movement.
The Cartoni Red Lock looks to be a very good tripod for anyone who wants quality but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money.
The Red Lock retails for just $300 US and Cartoni is also working on a tripod and head kit that will be under $1,000 US. The tripod will start shipping in November.
