BIRTV 2012: Tilta camera support systems for Sony, Canon and Blackmagic Design

By site editor Dan Chung:

The BIRTV show finished at the weekend and I’m finally getting around to uploading and editing a few more video interviews.

This next one is with rig manufacturer Tilta, which in Chinese I was told translates as ‘Metal Heads’. When I first met them a couple of years ago they only sold rigs to the Chinese domestic market – now they have more users in the West.

Tilta have increased their range of products massively since last year’s show and the quality of their construction is a cut above other Chinese manufacturers. I would say that Tilta and Movcam are the only Chinese brands of rigs I have seen that come close in quality to Western competitors.

They had a range of rigs for all the usual cameras – the Sony FS700 one in particular caught my eye with a well made EVF arm/bracket sitting on the side of the cage.

Also on show was a nice looking cage for the Blackmagic Design cinema camera which I was sadly unable to test as there was no camera to hand.

At the end of their video they also showed a new dual 15mm/19mm follow focus system which looked well built. Probably not the sort of thing an average news shooter would use, but it is interesting that they are trying to sell high end accessories for Cinema users too.
