BIRTV 2012: Blackmagic Design Digital Cinema Camera update from Dan Chung on Vimeo.
At the BIRTV show in Beijing Blackmagic Design’s Richard Lim took time to update me on the progress of their Digital Cinema Camera. He claimed that the camera is expected to ship within two weeks, if not slightly sooner. He also showed me several interesting new features of the camera – an expanded ISO range down to 200ASA and a additional function of double tap on screen to check focus.
Interestingly he said the camera design is now locked and there will be no more physical modifications to the camera before it ships. Critics of the camera who wanted to see features like an interchangeable battery will have to settle for aftermarket power solutions.
I also asked whether it is possibile that Blackmagic might offer the Digital Cinema Camera with a lens mount other than Canon EOS in the future? Richard told me “a lot of things is possible”.
