The GLASWERK ONE and ONE+ lens series are 2x front anamorphic sets that are designed to cover the Vista Vision format. They were being shown for the very first time at Cinegear 2019.
The GLASWERK ONE lens series are all T2.4 and they consist of the following focal lengths:
- 25mm
- 32mm
- 40mm
- 50mm
- 60mm
- 75mm
- 100mm
- 135mm
- 180mm
It’s nice to see a large range of focal lengths, especially a very wide 25mm offering.
GLASWERK ONE+
The GLASWERK ONE+ lens series consist of the exact same focal lengths and they all have the same T2.4 aperture. The ONE+ lens series is mostly identical to the ONE, but offers typical blue flares due to special coatings that are based on early anamorphic lens designs from the 60s. The only differences are the following:
- Vintage blue horizontal flares
- Minimized spherical flares
- Slightly decreased contrast compared to ONE
- Custom flare color lenses upon request
Design philosophy
Glaswerk- Optics main focus when developing the lenses was that they had to cover the Vista Vision image format to have compatibility with the latest camera models from ARRI, Sony, Canon, and RED. There had to be no restriction of the light path, hence no bokeh cut off. The lenses had to have low distortion and minimal spherical and chromatic aberrations, as well as extreme close focus ability.

What makes these lenses special?
Glaswerk ONE is a true front anamorphic lens with a constant horizontal 2x compression across the whole focus range and is designed to cover the ARRI Alexa LF in open gate Anamorphic (30.65 x 25.54mm). All cylindrical elements are located in front of the aperture.
The Bokeh is soft and evenly oval-shaped without spherical overcorrection. Glaswerk ONE spares fixed corrective apertures or brackets that cut the light path. The design not only prevents cut-off bokeh but also light loss towards the corners.
The modular transfer function shows a high contrast across the entire image while distortion and loss of light are minor.
A lens by lens ghost analysis with state of the art raytracing software was carried out and enables Glaswerk to control and design flares – not only for every single lens, but also in every imaginable combination.
The standard version of Glaswerk ONE is entirely coated with a modern multilayer coating for very controllable flares.
Optical Design
This is an example of the optical design, in this case, for the 50mm T2.4.

The optical design of the lenses was done by former Leica optical designers.
Mechanics & Build Quality
Specific attention was placed on stability. Akin to the optical design, the mechanics are a brand new development. The mechanical engineers have experience in lithography lenses as well as space technology and created a rock-solid housing with industrial anodizing.
The lenses are not lightweight and the lightest offerings, the 60mm and 75mm T2.4 lenses tip the scales at 3.7 kg (8.16 lb).
The GLASWERK ONE lenses are low-maintenance. Rear and front lens are easy accessible and lubricant-free bearings ensure full functionality across extreme variations in temperature.
A new unique feature makes the lenses even more robust to extreme climate conditions.
The focus scale can be converted quickly from metric to imperial in any clean environment, averting readjustment of the lens.
The mechanical design was done by former Zeiss mechanical engineers. The lenses are completely developed, engineered and assembled in Germany.
Price & Availability
The lenses are expected to retail for a similar price to other 2x full frame anamorphic lenses that are currently available.
The 50mm, 60mm, 75mm and 100mm are expected to start shipping in the first quarter of 2020. The rest of the focal lengths will be available in late 2020.
