Sachtler has announced a new ground spreader for the Flowtech 75 and Flowtech 100 tripods. Up until now, the Flowtech models have only come with a mid spreader, but finally, Sachtler has made a ground spreader available.
While a lot of ENG and EFP shooters prefer mid spreaders, a ground spreader makes sense for shooters who are primarily shooting on flat surfaces. A ground spreader extends the stability of your tripod when used on flat surfaces.
The Flowtech ground spreader can be quickly attached or removed from the tripod. A unique foot control enables operators to change the tripod’s footprint without having to bend over; they simply step on one of the foot buttons to extend the spreader arms to the full radius. Since the spreader feet are removable, operators no longer have to carry a separate set of feet if they choose to use the tripod without the spreader for low-angle shots.
The Flowtech ground spreader weighs 800 grams (1.80 pounds) and features a built-up radius of 38-57cm (15-22.4 inches).
I reviewed the Flowtech 100 on the site last year and was very impressed with the tripod. It is a very versatile product that is quick and easy to use. Both the Flowtech 75 and the Flowtech 100 are good options for ENG and EFP crews.
I couldn’t find out how much the Ground Spreader costs in $USD. The only place that seems to have a price for the Ground Spreader is a Japanese website, where it is listed for 73,332 JPY ($671 USD). I would expect the price to be cheaper in the US. Even if the Ground Spreader costs $400-$500 USD that is a lot of money to pay for a tripod accessory, especially for the Flowtech 75. I would imagine Sachtler will be selling both the Flowtech 75 and Flowtech 100 with the option to choose either a mid spreader or a ground spreader.
