Buying gear second hand can be a great way at extending your budget. Camera gear is not always affordable and if you aren’t buying new, your options are usually to hire or buy second hand.
ShareGrid, the camera rental marketplace, has today launched ShareGrid Buy & Sell. In addition to being able to buy & sell to over 55,000 users in the ShareGrid community, ShareGrid has will also offer exclusive flash deals in partnership with AbelCine.
A Safe Marketplace
ShareGrid Buy & Sell aims to be a safe place for users to buy and sell camera equipment at a much cheaper cost than listing on eBay or Amazon. Too often have we heard of people being frauded buying a cinema camera package so the more secure and safe a marketplace is, the better.
ShareGrid claims to have automatic fraud protection measures in place and a secure payment system that acts as a middle-man, holding the funds until the deal is complete. If you do ever need support, there is a dedicated team of staff ready to help with your enquiry. Always a good sign.
In comparison to other selling marketplaces, ShareGrid Buy & Sell is specific to filmmaking and camera equipment, so whether you’re a buyer or a seller, you’ll be reaching the right market.
You can see the full details on the other policies including return and dispute policies on the support page.
Additionally, ShareGrid has partnered with AbelCine, a leading camera equipment retailer and service provider, to serve as ShareGrid’s exclusive fulfilment partner on the new Buy & Sell platform. AbelCine has a long-standing relationship with many of the top manufacturers which will also serve to create flash deals. The first flash deal launch will be a $500 discount on a new SmallHD 702 Bright monitor.
Besides AbelCine fulfilling exclusive deals for the community, other camera retailers like Deals All Year and 17th street Photo have also jumped onboard to sell directly to ShareGrid Members.
As a seller, you can offer local pick up or to ship the item. Just like eBay, user ratings play a big part in how trustworthy the seller/buyer is.
The chat interface looks nice and easy to use, with the ability to create offers and verify the seller/buyers.
How much will it cost?
While listing a product for sale is free, there is a final selling fee of 5%, capped at $500 per transaction. In addition to this, there is a payment fee of 0.8% when paying by direct deposit and 2.8% + 30cents when paying by credit card. The 0.8% payment fee is capped at $5.
There are no extra monthly fees, and includes all of the fraud protection and support services.
