A Complete Redesign
Aputure has definitely taken the feedback on board with many of the improvements addressing our concerns in the original 120d review. For the LS 120d II, Aputure started from the ground up, making the light 25% brighter than the original 120D and is now balanced at 5500K instead of 6000K. The light is claimed to output 88,000 lux at 0.5m with the Fresnel adapter attached.
Aputure also claims that the light tests with high scores, with a 96+ CRI & 97+ TLCI rating.
Just like the rest of the Aputure lights, it comes with the handy remote control with a 100m range.
Combined Controller-Power Unit
One of the biggest changes to the unit is the new combined controller-power unit. A single unit means less fiddling around and only one extra piece to mount.
It is available in either Anton Bauer Gold Mount (314*119*51mm) or V-mount (314*119*62.6mm)
Industry standard Neutrik locking connectors are also now in use, providing a secure connection when running the light on AC power.
DMX Capability
One feature that was missing from the original 120d was DMX control. The 120d II adds a standard 5-pin DMX512 in & out ports to the control box. Using the DMX control, not only can you adjust the brightness of the light but also trigger lighting effects.
New Handbraking Locking Yoke
A re-designed yoke provides up to 330-degrees of motion with a secure handbrake lock.
Is it Travel-Friendly?
The C120d II weighs in at just over 2kg (4.8lb) so it’s not too heavy to bring around. You can use it with AC power or a camera block battery with the V-mount & Gold-mount plates available.
The light draws 150W of power so you will need to use the appropriate batteries. If you are flying, you can take up to two 100-160Wh batteries on most airlines.
