Edelkrone have unveiled the Motion BOX, a pocket-sized motion control unit where you can use an app to control the pan & tilt head, camera skater, 1-axis head solution for SliderONE PRO and the companies product turntable.
With a single Motion BOX you can program your pans, achieve perfectly stable speeds, repeat the same shot for visual effects, capture panoramic photos, and use Edelkrone’s new time-lapse 2.0 features.
If you combine two Motion BOXes with a Tilt Kit you can control both the pan and tilt. All features like time-lapse 2.0, stop motion, 360 mode will still be available. The BOXes instantly pair with each other via Bluetooth and have built-in accelerometers. When used vertically, it knows that it is being used for tilting and adjusts itself. Also, you can use Tilt Kit with a single Motion BOX just for tilting.
Motion BOX can be used directly on ground and without a tripod. You can attach the Skater Kit to the Motion BOX to create a very compact app controlled dolly. According to Edelkrone, this macro-precise setup will enable you to
shoot real-time and time-lapse videos on any smooth & flat surface.
Instant curve adjustment. Thanks to the constant friction knob-less design of Skater Kit, the front wheels stay as you leave them, letting you adjust the motion curve quickly. When the wheels are fully opened, Skater Kit gives you a linear motion.
The FlexTILT Head 2 can be attached vertically to the front of Skater Kit to provide height and tilt adjustments while keeping the camera balanced. A magic arm can also be attached to the top of Skater Kit. Regular tripod heads and ball heads are not recommended.
The Motion BOX lets you use the manual controls to compose precise, repeatable motion by setting start / stop points, speed and acceleration. When you compose your shot, you can convert it into time-lapse with a single tap.
If you combine the Motion BOX with the SliderONE PRO you can enable you camera to pan while it is sliding. The Motion BOX pairs with SliderONE PRO and your phone via Bluetooth. They can then both be controlled through the Motion BOX mobile app.
With the new time-lapse 2.0, you can use any Edelkrone product to program your camera motion so you convert your shot into a time-lapse with a single tap. The final time-lapse video will be exactly the same as your original composition including the duration, slide, pan, tilt, and acceleration.
With Time-warper and Motion-warper you have the option to bend the speed of time in your time-lapses without affecting the speed of your camera motion. Or, you can alter the speed of your motion without affecting the speed of time.
The Motion BOX has a 15 lb (6.8 kg) carrying capacity (centered). It’s constructed out of a CNC machined aluminum body. It weighs in at 18.3 oz (520 g).
The Motion BOX will be available in May for $284 USD. You can also buy a Motion BOX Complete Bundle which includes two Motion BOXes, a Tilt Kit, a Skater Kit, a Product Turntable Kit, a FlexTILT Head 2 and a StandONE for $1154 USD.
The Motion BOX certainly looks like an interesting product for getting some creative shots with smaller camera set-ups. The only downsides are that it has to be used with other Edelkrone products and the battery life unless you are using the time-lapse function is only 1 hour.
