Matthews Studio Equipment has announced the K-Stacker II lighting support system for mounting multiple Kino Flo LED panels or fluorescent fixtures. The K-Stacker II is the follow up to the original K-Stacker that was announced back in 2012.
The K-Stacker II lighting support system was designed to overcome the problem of mounting multiple smaller LED panels into a single larger panel. Lights such as the Kino Flo FreeStyle 31 LED Panels are great, but despite their large size, they don’t have a massive amount of output (2470lx at 1 meter). To create a larger, more powerful soft lighting source you need to combine multiple units, and that presents a problem with how to mount them together. That’s where the K-Stacker II comes in.
The K-Stacker II allows you to mount three FreeStyle 31 LED Panels or two 4’/4’ Banks in a row. The LED controllers and four Bank ballasts rig directly on the stand, or remotely up to 75 feet away via head extension cables. You can also power the LEDs via 24VDC batteries mounted on the K-Stacker II. The four bank fixtures can also be rotated from a horizontal to a vertical position depending on your lighting needs.
With the K-Stacker II, a “Tower of Power” can be created by tying together two or three large fluorescent or LED fixtures on a rolling stand or Runway Base. You can hang the ballasts off the back, tie everything together into a power strip and, with just a stinger to the power source, this compact, powerful light source can be moved almost anywhere.
Matthews will be showing the K-Stacker II at NAB next month. It is now available to purchase for $219 USD.
