It’s been a busy day for Tamron, not only did they just announce the new 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD full frame telephoto zoom, but they have also announced that they are developing a high-speed standard zoom lens for 35mm full-frame mirrorless cameras. This lens will be the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD.
With 35mm full-frame mirrorless cameras becoming increasingly popular, Tamron knows it has to keep making more compatible lenses to keep up with its competition. According to Tamron, the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD will deliver superb optical performance, including both outstanding image quality and beautiful bokeh. The minimum object distance of 19cm (7.5 in) at the wide-angle zoom setting of 28mm is pretty impressive. The lens will be 11.8cm (4.6″) long and weigh in at 550g (19.4 oz).
Tamron says that the lens will use an all-new high-speed and precise AF driving system called RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive). This stepping motor unit, is claimed to operate with remarkable quietness, making it suitable for video use. The lens also features a moisture-resistant construction and a hydrophobic fluorine coating.
The 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD will be compatible with the “Direct Manual Focus (DMF)” system feature of Sony cameras.
There is no indication from Tamron of pricing, but the lens will apparently be available sometime in the middle of this year.
