The Rycote Stickies O’s Advanced were being shown at NAB 2017. If you aren’t familiar with the product, they are small double-sided pieces of material that as the name “Stickies” suggests stick down on both sides. You use them to place lavalier microphones on subjects underneath or on top of their clothing so the microphone isn’t seen in shot.
I am a big fan of Stickies and have been using them for years. The new versions are double-sided, hypoallergenic, adhesive pads that are slightly larger and easier to use than the original versions. The soft fabric sandwiched between the two adhesive pads prevents the adhered mic from creaking due to skin or clothing movement.
You can buy the Stickies in packs of 25 and 100, and prices start at $16.95US for the 25 pack. This definitely isn’t cheap for what are essentially small bits of double-sided tape, but they are worth it in my opinion. There is nothing more frustrating than fiddling around with a microphone trying to get it to stick or stop rustling when the talent is waiting around.
