At the Photokina GoPro were showing their customs solutions for productions which have been available since earlier this year. GoPro now make a version of the Hero4 Black that is split down into component parts for easier placement and discreet mounting.
The idea is to take the already small GoPro form factor and make it even less obvious. There may be situations where even a Hero Session might be too big and this is where the custom solutions come in. The lens and sensor are detached from the main control unit and memory card, which in turn can be powered by a battery on the end of another extension cable. You can get different cable lengths to suit your application.
Uses so far have included mounting the camera in hats, into motorbike fairings and into the base of the Grammy awards. Often the camera is coupled to GoPro’s HeroCast wireless live transmission system.
The customs solutions are not available for the public to buy. In order to use them you need to be involved in a professional production and apply to GoPro via their Custom Solutions webpage.
