The Newsshooter team has assembled, like the Avengers, Voltron, or perhaps IKEA furniture, in Las Vegas to bring you the latest from the NAB 2016 show floor.
We’re here for the whole week of the expo, made possible this year by the generosity of our sponsors: Blackmagic Design, Kessler, Movcam, Rode and Teradek. Thanks!
We’ve seen a number of pre-show announcements already, so we’re going to be taking a look at Canon’s new cube camera and 18-80 cine lens, Zacuto’s spherically-inspired new EVF and probably something pyramidal just to complete the set.
Of course that’s just for starters, and we’ll also have teams roaming the exhibition halls looking for the stuff we haven’t heard about yet. That’s partly to bring you the freshest kit coming to market, and partly to find candidates for the Newsshooter Awards. This year as well as our overall Most Innovative Product award we’re looking for:
- Best Lighting Innovation
- Best News Gathering Innovation
- Best Accessory for Pro Video Cameras
- Best Audio Innovation
- Best Optical Innovation
- Best Accessory for Small Form-Factor Cameras
- Best New Camera
- Best Camera Motion Innovation
Dan and Matt will also be broadcasting from Teradek’s live booth, right from the heart of the exhibition centre. We’ve got great segments lined up from Geoff Boyle on his exhaustive lens tests, Philip Grossman is dropping in to chat about filming in Chernobyl en route to addressing the UN (!) and Matt has a terrific panel assembled to discuss women in cinematography. And if your time zone isn’t compatible with tuning in live we’ll be hosting our individual segments here on Newsshooter.
We’re also foolishly-slash-bravely (delete as appropriate) debuting our new commenting platform, Disqus. Your old comments should carry over and they’ll appear in the same place as before – but now it should be easier to join in the conversation below the line. It’s always gratifying to see how knowledgable our audience are and hopefully removing the need to create an account and log in will help to create even more informed discussions around popular posts.
You’ll also notice a new footer at the bottom of our blog posts encouraging you to sign up to our weekly newsletter. It’s something we’ve been planning for a while now, and we’re intending to publish a simple weekly digest of the most popular items from the site, some posts you might have overlooked and the occasional special offer or competition. If that sounds like it’s up your street, head on over to the sign-up page and, well, sign up.
Hope you enjoy the coverage of NAB and the changes to the site – let us know either way in the (new, improved) comments section or drop me a line: elliot (at) newsshooter.com.
