Vocas were in London for BVE to show their latest accessories for the Sony FS5. We’ve reported on their sliding baseplate and top plate before, but new this time was a PL mount support bracket that secures the company’s own lens adapter to their FS5 top plate. Traditional rod-based lens adapter brackets restrict how far back a camera can go before they collide with the baseplate. This can make a rig very front heavy and hard to hold for periods of time. When attaching the new PL bracket to the top of the FS5, the setup can be slid further back on the baseplate, allowing larger lenses to be correctly balanced.
Other new items included an adapter that allows the FS5 handgrip to be repositioned onto grip arms. It converts the proprietary Sony FS5 handgrip mount into an ARRI standard rosette, which can then be attached using appropriate hardware. A matching adapter for the camera body allows the newly converted handgrip to be reinstalled on the side of the camera if required. When using the grip on an arm, Vocas also have a neat extension cable for the LANC connector.
Also on show was an EVF mount based on the NATO rail design with a new cable clip holder that snaps onto it, keeping things tidy.
Lastly, they had a new wooden handgrip design that has two buttons: the regular one for start/stop, and a new one that can be programmed to perform different tasks assigned to the F4 button. It works with cameras like the Sony FS7. Sadly, existing Vocas wooden handgrips with a single button can’t be upgraded to the newer design.
