We have seen the prices of both the Sony F3 and FS700R drop in the last few days, and this is probably the reason why: a post on the Sony Europe Facebook page has announced that a new Sony FS series camera will be unveiled next week on September 11th at the IBC show in Amsterdam. Newsshooter will be at the show and we’ll bring you all the details, specifications and latest information on the camera as soon as we find out.
From the teaser it appears that the new addition to the FS lineup will sit somewhere between the FS700 and the FS7. It looks from the outline like a mini FS7, probably designed to compete with the popular Canon C300 mkII. There is no more information at present and the biggest question must be whether this camera will have internal 4K recording?
Sony seems to have a habit of making a lot of camera models with similar specifications and the new camera comes into an already crowded lineup. This can only mean that the older FS700 is not long for this world – hence the price drop at B+H. I suspect the new camera will effectively replace the FS700 and fill the gap between the a7S and the FS7.
