We have an update on the Nexus G1, designed around the Blackmagic 6k Super 35 Raw imaging system. They have added several new features and options, like electronic ND and Swapple mounts that can be activated with a button click. This project probably wouldn’t be possible without Black Magic Designs’ blessing. It’s a bit crazy they are helping, considering their new camera, the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K, is now available for $2999. Granted, the Nexus G1 is a much more lofty design at almost the same retail price. No shipping date has been announced, but a waiting list has been established.
The Nexus G1 will retail for $2,980 USD to followers and supporters. The normal retail will be $3,300 USD.

Magnesium Alloy Body
The Nexus G1 has a super lightweight body made of magnesium alloy and carbon fiber. With 64 solid mounting points, it can be rigged as much or as little as you like.
Electronic ND Module
The Nexus G1 electronic ND module is very interesting. It features high-quality instant exposure control with a range of 2-7 stops. It can be continuously variable or stopped both in manual mode and in fully automatic mode. It will provide easy, accurate, real-time exposure control without changing the aperture, ISO, or shutter.
Integrated FIZ control
The integrated FIZ control system allows camera centralized control of external lens motors, for effortless electronic control of manual cine lenses. The focus, iris and zoom of manual lenses are fully controlled through the camera controls, as easy to use as electronic lenses. And the system integrates with the Nexus grip.
Ports and Power
The port placements are optimized for filmmakers. Now, with a built-in modular power system and full-size professional ports you can connect and power with.
Versatile Monitor
A bright 1600 nit 5” touchscreen monitor goes wherever you need it with A single cable that supplies video and power.
Powering
The recessed, integrated mini-V-mount bay allows the use of high-capacity professional batteries while maintaining a balanced, compact form factor. It also accepts Gold Mount, full-size V-mount, and dual NPF via adaptors. The internal backup battery ensures uninterrupted filming and allows hot-swapping of the main battery.
Integrated power distribution
With integrated D-tap power output ports and USB-C power delivery, you can power almost anything. The optional Lemo power output module provides 4x 12v 0B 2-pin Lemo power outputs.
Storage Options
There is support for many storage types, including Cfast 2.0, SD cards, and USB-C. It also supports the Nexus Maxdrive, which offers high capacity and higher write speeds and allows shooting with lower compression levels at half the price of a Cfast card.
Pro Audio
For audio, it will have two Full-size XLR inputs, Phantom power, and high-quality preamps. You can record high-quality audio with professional microphones directly into the camera. The two built-in stereo microphones allow you to capture high-quality scratch audio. The physical controls allow you to easily control gain.
SDI Module
With an SDI upgrade module, you get 1x 3G SDI in and out, so you can use professional video accessories. The module also supports camera control, so you can control the Nexus G1 through SDI switchers.
Built-in Rig Rods
Nexus states this is the world’s first internal adjustable LWS spaced 15mm rig rod mount system when you need them, slide them back into the body when you don’t.
Controls
Everything is controlled by the top mounted integrated 4” touchscreen. And all essential settings are also controllable with the physical buttons and precision adjustment wheel.
There is a lot of new information, but the Nexus G1 isn’t ready for prime time yet. It’s interesting to watch how the camera’s design has evolved; in fact, it has some pretty big aspirations. We will keep you updated!
