Nikon has announced the development of an upcoming NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ power zoom lens.
Nikon has slowly been trying to make up ground in the hybrid mirrorless space when it comes to products and features for video shooters. This lens is being touted as a good option for documentary work, and events, as well as solo shooters and small crews.
There isn’t any further information about this lens or when it will be available or how much it will cost.
This NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ looks fairly similar to the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Full-Frame Power Zoom Lens, but it doesn’t appear to have any lens stabilization. As a price indicator, the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Full-Frame Power Zoom Lens retails for $2,498 USD.
While it is always good to see new products coming to market, you need to make a lens that is arguably better or has a larger focal range than something that has already been out for many years. I think with the acquisition of RED, a lot of Nikon shooters were perhaps hoping for Nikon to make cine lenses and not just a hybrid stills/cine lens.
