Charging batteries is time-consuming; if you can do it faster, that’s a big win. With USB PD power becoming more popular with our production batteries, it might be a good time to upgrade that old charger.
I love that we also see batteries with included USB-C taps for fast charging and powering external devices. It’s a significant upgrade; however, charging single batteries from an AC USB-C adapter can get messy, even if it has several USB-C taps. I do prefer a dedicated charging base, but having options is always a good thing.
PD Fast Charging
The Vitrox Dual Smart Double Charging output is 8.4V/2A, quickly charging one or two NP-F batteries at 2A. An AC fast charger with 12V/3a output is required to achieve the fastest charging speed with dual channels, such as a PD 45 w or PD 60W USB-C PD AC charging adapter. 12V/3a is the key.
If you dont have a 35w or higher PD AC adapter and cable, you will need to purchase one, as it’s not included.
This can cost more than double the low $19.99 retail price of the charging base. But if you already have the AC USB-C PD adapter, it’s an inexpensive fast-charging solution for NP-F batteries and a number of other devices that use USB-3 charging.
You will know you are giving the Viltrox VL22 the higher power as the middle green lightning bolt is illuminated.
As the battery charges, the four-stage status updates. The completion stage stays on, and when blinking, it’s charging. When completed, all four lights remain illuminated.

Compatible Batteries
The charger is compatible with all NP-F batteries from Sony and third parties, such as the NP-F550, NP-F750, NP-F770, NP-F930, NP-F950, NP-F960, and NP-F970 type.
The NP-F battery is a staple for video production devices. Many monitors, wireless video systems, and smaller lights use it. I bet you have a couple of these in your kit, too. My favorite variety is from Core SWX: the NANO F ATOMX. These are nice as they are 47w in the smaller NP-F750 size with an output of the largest NP-F930 version.
Size and Portability
I like its size—it’s flat and has a tiny footprint. It will indeed travel well in your kit. There are also quad chargers available, but they require a 100w USB-PD AC Charger to take full advantage of, and some don’t charge all four batteries simultaneously. Make sure you check the specifications.
Just Released
Accsoon recently released the TOPRIG 100W 4-Bay NP-F Fast Charger, which looks very nice. It does more but also costs twice as much. I like the 100w PD Power feature and the trickle charge after the batteries are finished. This helps keep the batteries in good condition and at full charge capacity.
I’m pleased with the Viltox VL22 Dual Charger. It’s small and packable and charges my NP-F batteries fast. Just get the proper 12V/3a output PD adapter, and you are set. At $20, it’s an inexpensive charger that gets the job done.
