At NAB 2024 in Las Vegas, SHIMBOL was showing it yet to be announced CM5 Wired Camera Control Recording Monitor.
The whole concept behind the CM5 was to create a monitor for mirrorless hybrids where you could also control certain functionality, such as ISO, WB, F stop, focus, zoom, etc.
It utilizes a 5.5″ 1920 x 1080 touch screen monitor with a brightness of 2000 nits and a contrast ratio of 1200:1.
You connect an HDMI cable from your camera to the CM5, along with a cable that goes into the Mini USB port. The HDMI cable provides the picture and the cable that goes into the CM5 allows for the camera control. SHIMBOL will have different cables for different cameras so this can work.
SHIMBOL told me that the CM5 will work with almost all mirrorless hybrid cameras on the market from most manufacturers.
You can also do things like zooming in while you are recording, which can be handy when using certain mirrorless hybrids that don’t allow you to do that. You can also trigger record both the camera and internal recording o the CM5 which is done to a SD card. You can record up to 1080p in MP4. While this isn”t going to be good enough quality for a lot of applications you can use it for playing back clips or social media posts.
The CM5 can be powered via Sony NP-F battery, through a DC input, or through USB-C.
The monitor also features SDI In and Out ports, but you can”t use those to get camera control.
