The multimedia categories of the 2015 World Press Photo competition opens for entries today. There are three categories: Short Feature, Long Feature and Interactive Documentary. Each submission has to have been produced for web and “must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound or text”.

The annual competition is only open to professional visual journalists and can be entered from now until 23.59 Central European Time on the 14th of January 2015. The results will be announced in March 2015.

Entries must either have English-language audio and/or text or must be subtitled in English. You can read the full rules here.

I’m honoured to be joining the Multimedia contest jury this year. It will be chaired by Marianne Lévy-Leblond, head of web productions and transmedia projects at ARTE. Along with fellow jury members Huusain Currimbhoy, Barbara Davidson and Bob Sacha I’ll be judging the Short feature and Long feature categories.

To enter head over the to the World Press Photo submissions page.

Here’s a full description of each category from World Press Photo:

Key is storytelling, along with a proficient use of visual and other elements.

The production(s) must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound or text. The focus is skilful storytelling with strong narration building, competently executed using visual and other elements.

Interactive Documentary

An interactive story or project produced for the web or as an app for a mobile device, which must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound or text.
