Nikon has announced its new NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena full-frame portrait lens. Nikon states that the 135mm prime is unlike any before it.
The lens is claimed to have astonishing edge-to-edge clarity and dreamlike circular bokeh. A focal length treasured for portraits, still life, cinema and landscapes. Nikon says that the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena’s performance has been optimized for shooting wide-open.

The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena features an innovative design that delivers more light to the edges and corners of the frame across the entire aperture range. Because of this design, there won’t be any vignetting so you don’t need to stop down your aperture down to get better edge brightness.
Above you can see some short films using the lens.
The 13mm features Nikon’s most advanced anti-reflective coatings, Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat, which are combined to suppress the harshest light coming from multiple directions.
As far as AF is concerned, the lens utilizes Nikon’s Multi-Focus System that has dual STM stepping motors that move in sync for enhanced precision, especially when shooting wide open. The ultra-fast system also operates in near-silence, so you can track moving subjects without mechanical noises or vibrations.
Despite covering a full frame sensor and having an aperture of f/1.8 the 135mm tips the scales at just 995g / 351 oz.
For video shooters, linear focus is available in either rotation direction when using compatible Z series cameras, and Nikon claims that the focus breathing is very minimal.
You can use the clickless control ring or your camera’s Fn1 and Fn2 buttons to smoothly, steplessly open and close the aperture.
The lens has an 82mm front filter diameter and a minimum focusing distance of 82cm / 2.69′.
The 135mm features full weather sealing as you would expect from a S series lens.
