Godox has unveiled its new Virso / Virso S 2.4GHz Wireless Microphone System. There are now so many 2.4GHz wireless microphone systems available that it is hard to keep track of them all.
The concept behind the Virso/Virso S is to offer users an affordable, cableless wireless audio system that has an ultra-long battery life that can be used for three-people interviews, vlogs, documentaries, etc.
I am not the biggest fan of these clip-on wireless microphone systems as I personally would never want a large microphone in the shot with a big branded label on it. Why companies feel the need to do this is beyond me. However, you don’t have to use them as clip-on mics because the kits do come with Lavalier microphones as well.
What makes the Virso S different from other options on the market is that RX unit features an innovative hotshoe mount that can slide directly onto the Multi Interface shoe of Sony cameras. This allows you to have a completely cabless solution while not tying up the 3.5mm input. The Virso S RX unit sends audio directly from the Multi Interface shoe. Godox doesn’t mention whether the Multi Interface shoe also powers the RX unit.
The Virso S (Sony version) is equipped with built-in microphones in both the transmitter and receiver. This enables you to capture high-quality audio from both the subjects you’re filming and the person behind the camera without an extra transmitter.
If you are not using Sony cameras, you need to get get the standard version Virso. This offers all of the same features and functionality, apart from the ability to use the Sony Multi Shoe Interface.
Like a lot of similar systems on the market, the Virso S offers a -6db safety track to prevent clipping via the receiver. The transmitter features a Micro SD card slot that allows up to 256GB of space for up to 400 hours of backup recording.
According to Godox, the system has a line of sight range of up to 650ft / 200m.
Other features include:
- Denoise
- One-press Mute
- Screen Rotation
- One-press Pair
- Mono/Stereo mode
- Volume Setting
According to Godox, the system offers extended battery life, with up to 13H of operation for the transmitter and 17H for the receiver on a single charge. The standard version Virso M2 package also includes a charging case.
