Nikon has unveiled its new NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 APS-C lens. This is a reasonably fast and affordable compact prime lens for Nikon Z mount APS-C size/DX-format mirrorless cameras.
The NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 is the first prime APS-C size NIKKOR Z lens. This lens does come as somewhat of a surprise considering most of the Nikon Z cameras are FX (full frame). In saying that, cameras such as the Z9 and Z8 have crop modes where you can shoot in APS-C.
According to Nikon, the new 24mm f/1.7 enables the capture of beautiful, high-resolution photos and video in dimly lit conditions.
The lens has a 7″ / 18cm minimum focus distance and it features a compact and lightweight design. When combined with the Nikon Z 30, the camera and lens combined weight is approximately 540g.
The 24mm f/1.7 utilizes a stepping motor (STM) that enables quiet autofocusing while minimizing focus sounds when recording video.
The lens was designed to have minimal focus breathing. The optical design consists of 9 elements in 8 groups and it has 7 aperture blades.
Price & Availability
The new NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 lens will be available in mid-June 2023 for $276.95 USD. This makes the lens very affordable and it would make for a nice compact option for shooting video with Nikon cameras.
