After several months of beta releases Blackmagic Design’s Davinci Resolve 11 colour grading software is now available as a full release.
The most exciting feature to me is the colour match palette which samples a clip you take of a industry standard colour chart and then automatically creates a neutral grade of the image. The results are very impressive and give you a great point at which to start your grade.
The redesigned interface is a welcome addition for editors unfamiliar with Resolve.
In addition to the way you can round trip projects between Resolve and popular editing software like Adobe Premiere, FCP X and Avid Mediacomposer, you can now edit directly within Resolve. Transitions, titles and audio crossfades are right there within Resolve along with trimming tools. In fact for some quick turnaround simple projects Resolve may now be one of the best ways to cut and grade something quickly.
Another nice feature is the clone tool that allows you to make backups of cards to multiple destinations from within Resolve and also verify them with checksum verification.
