Sony USA were at CineGear talking about their upgrade option that turns a F5 into a F55 – adding features like 4K internal recording, Sony’s wide gamma and global shutter to an already good camera. This is designed to give F5 owners a clear upgrade path if they find their work requires the extra functions of a F55. The camera must be returned to one of two Sony service centers that can handle the upgrade. It can be done in 48 hours and costs $16999 US, but there is currently a mail-in rebate for $1200 US.
The ENG style sled or ‘Doc dock’ we first saw at NAB still has no firm pricing, but will be under $10K US.
