The ZOOM M2 MicTrak Stereo Microphone and Recorder combines two cardioid microphones in an X/Y position with a quality microSD-compatible field recorder. This all-in-one design makes it a convenient solution and it also includes the ability to record in up to 96 kHz / 32-bit float.

The M2 MicTrak was designed to fuse the professional guts and features of the F-Series recorders with the convenience and portable form factor of the Handy Series. This middle road allows the M2 to provide excellent functionality at an attractive price.

32-bit floating point recording provides excellent headroom and helps to avoid clipping issues. A high max SPL of 135 dB SPL delivers further protection against clipping for loud sound sources, such as performances, crowds, or instruments. It features Dual AD converter circuits, derived from the F-Series, that make manual input gain adjustments unnecessary. There is Support for broadcast and film-quality BWF wav format as well as iXML for inclusion of location metadata on files or IP audio streams

The M2 features a backlit LCD display, mono speaker, and headphone output, so you can monitor your recordings in real-time.

The M2 (including batteries) weighs just 204g/ 7.9 oz. It can also be used as a USB audio interface to record directly to an external computer or digital recording device. The M2 can be run via two AA batteries, USB-C bus power, or from the Zoom AD-17 AC adapter (sold separately). The M2 will run for for the follwing times when using AA batteries:

  • Alkaline batteries About 11 hours
  • NiMH batteries (1900 mAh) About 10.5 hours
  • Lithium batteries About 22 hours

It would have been nice if the M2 was able to use ZOOM’s Bluetooth Adaptor BTA-1 so that you could combine it with an UltraSync Blue to embed timecode into your recordings.

The M2 MicTrak is ideal for a wide range of portable sound recording applications and this makes it look like a good option for journalism and interviews, podcasts, streaming, audio for video, and as a back-up field recorder that you could just keep in a bag.

Price & Availability

The ZOOM M2 MicTrak is now available to pre-order for $199 USD. It should be shipping early in the new year.
