OSEE has updated the Megamon 15 15.4″ Production Monitor with a 1000-nit brightness display and the ability to color calibrate with OSEE software and a color calibration puck.
The OSEE Megamon 15 is a stated 10-bit monitor. It uses 8+2 FRC to simulate 10bit. In most cases, at smaller sizes, the user can’t tell the difference between the two, but the 8+FRC is much less expensive while visually simulating a 10-bit image.
A new feature is the monitor can be hardware calibrated using an i1Display and included software. This is great, especially in this price range.

The 15″ size of the OSEE Megamon 15 is a nice balance between a camera and a director’s monitor. Obviously, you wouldn’t mount this 15.4″ monitor on a camera, but it will, as a camera operator, be great to have on set very close by. I like 7″ monitors a lot. They are much better than a small 5″ that is just a little bigger than what you already have on a cinema camera or hybrid. Stepping up to a bigger size like a 15.4″ interests me a lot.
The OSEE Megamon has a stated 1000nits and is HDR. It’s an HD monitor. You need to feed it an HD signal as it will not downconvert a UHD signal. The SDI can handle 10/12-Bit 4:4:4/4:2:2 RGB, YCC.
The OSEE Megamon 15 comes with a case that is also a hood for outdoor use. I like the idea of this convertible design. You can mount the monitor on a stand with the case attached. Also included are removable feet for desktop use.

The updated OSEE Megamon 15 looks like an interesting monitor that ticks a lot of boxes for users looking for a compact field monitor that potentially could be used for post-production use if the color is accurate and can be calibrated. It’s packed with pro-level features at a very competitive price.
1000nits should work fine with the included hood for outdoor use however I feel you need more than 1000nits for true outdoor use in the sun.
Something you don’t usually see is an updated version selling for a lower price. The OSEE Megamon 15 now retails for $899.00, down from the original price of $1,199.
