Matt Allard and Dan Chung talk in-depth to Panasonic’s Neil Ugo and Paul Boyland about their new VariCam cameras. The new VariCams include both a two-thirds and a 4k version. The systems are modular, separating the camera from the recording module, with another Raw recorder made specifically for the VariCam 35 , allowing operators to swap between the two sensors while using the same recorder. The HS model features a two-thirds MOS sensor with 1080p native recording and can record in up to 240fps in full HD using AVC-Intra codecs. The 35 model has a Super 35 MOS sensor recording in 4K raw at up to 120fps, and features both AVC-Ultra and Pro Res codecs. The recording module can take four cards: two expressP2 and two MicroP2 cards, and is compatible with Panasonic’s new 256GB Express2 card. Both the VariCam 35 and VariCam HS will be available in autumn this year, priced under $55,000 and $60,000 respectively. for more information visit: www.panasonic.com
