Prolycht Orion 675 FS full spectrum RGBACL color spotlight

Prolycht has announced its new high-powered Orion 675 FS full spectrum RGBACL color spotlight.

The Orion 675 FS utilizes a 6-color LED Hyperlight Color engine mixing Red, Green, Blue, Amber, Cyan and Lime to create a wider color gamut. Prolycht claims that this RGBACL technology used in the Orion 675 FS gives it the ability to outperform rival RGBWW based spotlights.

Design-wise the light shares some similarities with an ARRI Orbiter. Both have detachable quick-release yoke frames, both use interchangeable optics, and both have built-in power supplies and controllers.

Key features

  • 675W power draw
  • 6-color LED Hyperlight Color engine
  • 1800-20,000K
  • HSI Mode
  • CCT Mode
  • GEL Mode
  • X/Y Mode
  • Source Mode
  • Effects Mode

A genuine HMI replacement?

Screenshot 2022 04 22 at 11 46 50 AM

Prolycht claims that the Orion 675 FS is significantly brighter than a 1200W HMI fixture. In fact, they go as far as to claim that it is currently the most powerful fully color-tunable spotlight in the world. That isn’t necessarily a big claim to make as there aren’t actually that many high-powered fully color-tunable spotlights on the market.

Prolychyt goes on to claim that at 3200K the Orion 675 FS is equal in output to a classic 5000W tungsten fixture. They also state that compared to LED spotlights, the Orion 675 FS is brighter than a 600W daylight-only light and is three times brighter than any other manufacturer’s RGBACL spotlight.

So just how much output does it have and how does that compare to other high-power spotlights on the market? Well, below you can see. I have included daylight only and Bi-color fixtures that people are familiar with so you have a good reference.

5600K 55° Reflector @1m /3.3′

OUTPUT
Prolycht Orion 675 FS 91,530 lx**
ARRI Orbiter (60° Optic)18,800 lx*
Aputure LS 600x Pro68,400 lx
Aputure LS 600d Pro111,000 lx*
Nanlite Forza 72091,800 lx**
Nanlite Forza 720B84,460 lx**

* Independently tested

** Not tested (claimed output)

The figures suggest that the Prolycht Orion 675 FS has around the same amount of output as a Nanlite Forza 720 when used at 5600K, and around 20,000 lx less than an Aputure LS 600d Pro. However, the Aputure 600d and 600x have a massive hot spot when used with their Hyper Reflector. This produces inflated output figures and you clearly need to be aware of this.

What you clearly need to remember is that those are daylight-only fixtures. If you look at a Bi-color fixture like the Aputure LS 600x Pro, the Prolycht Orion 675 FS has around 23,000 lx more output (claimed), and about the same amount as the claimed output of the Nanlite Forza 720B, although that light draws 125W more. If you compare the Orion 675 FS it has a whopping 79% more output than the ARRI Orbiter.

As far as RGBWW spotlights are concerned, the claimed output of the Prolycht Orion 675 FS is very impressive given its power draw.

Power draw

Screenshot 2022 04 22 at 12 45 31 PM

The Orion 675 FS draws 675W. Below you can see how that compares against the ARRI Orbiter, Aputure LS 600x Pro, Aputure LS 600d, and Nanlite Forza 720 and 720B. Please remember that out of all these lights, only the ARRI has RGBW capabilities.

POWER DRAW
Prolycht Orion 675 FS675W
ARRI Orbiter500W
Aputure LS 600x Pro720W
Aputure LS 600d Pro720W
Nanlite Forza 720800W
Nanlite Forza 720B800W

As you can see, the Prolycht draws less power than the Aputure LS 600x Pro, Aputure LS 600d Pro and Nanlite Forza 720 options. It draws 175W more than the ARRI Orbiter.

The Orion 675 FS can be powered from AC power or a 48V battery, with AC pass-through power for ease of use. The light does have an in-built fan that can be set to Silent, Low Noise, Medium Speed, High Speed, or Auto.

Size & weight

Screenshot 2022 04 22 at 12 45 49 PM

Just like the ARRI Orbiter, the Orion 675 FS doesn’t have a separate power supply/ controller, everything is built into the fixture. This design allows for the light to be set up and used very quickly. The fixture weighs 21 lb / 9.45 kg which Prolycht states actually makes it lighter than less powerful comparable lights, and some COB-type lampheads with separate ballasts.

So how does this weight compare to other COB spotlights such as the ARRI Orbiter, Aputure LS 600x Pro, Aputure LS 600d, and Nanlite Forza 720 and 720B? Below you can see:

TOTAL WEIGHT
Prolycht Orion 675 FS21 lb / 9.45 kg
ARRI Orbiter25.8 lbs / 11.7 kg*
Aputure LS 600x Pro22.62 lb / 10.26 kg
Aputure LS 600d Pro22.62 lb / 10.26 kg
Nanlite Forza 72021 lb / 9.45 kg
Nanlite Forza 720B21 lb / 9.45 kg

* Doesn’t include the weight of the yoke frame

Essentially if you look at the weight comparison above, there isn’t a massive difference between the weight of the Prolycht Orion 675 FS and the Aputure LS 600x Pro, Aputure LS 600d Pro and Nanlite Forza 720 options.

Please remember that out of all these lights, only the ARRI has RGBW capabilities.

Seven Operating Modes

The Orion 675 FS features seven operating modes that you can use:

  • CCT Mode allows the Orion 675 FS can be adjusted the huge range from 1,800K to 20,000K color temperature with green/magenta offset throughout.
  • X/Y Mode allows precision repeatable color throughout the CIE1931 color space.
  • HSI Mode lets one dial-in hue, saturation, and intensity.
  • GEL Mode offers more than 330 Lee and Rosco gel equivalents applied to either 3200K or 5600K bases.
  • Single Color Mode provides direct control of the six individual color channels in the Hyperlight Color Engine.

Additionally, the SOURCE mode includes presets to replicate the output of more than 40 types of light sources, and the EFFECTS mode features a variety of multicolor effects, each with adjustable parameters for colors and timing. Along with the hundreds of preloaded settings, users can load their own presets into the Orion 675 FS.

Control

Screenshot 2022 04 22 at 11 45 51 AM

Control of the Orion 675 FS is available on the fixture itself, through DMX, CRMX LumenRadio, ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth Mesh. ArtNet is also fully supported. Prolycht offers the free ChromaLink App for IOS or Android phones and tablets, and the Orion 675 FS can interface with popular light control software and hardware.

Other Features

An angled yoke allows greater tilt range when light modifiers such as soft boxes are attached. It is reversible for better balance on light stands if heavy lens accessories are used. The yoke is quick-release mounted for easier storage and includes 1/4 20 threaded sockets for mounting future accessories.

The Orion 675 FS RGBACL multi-color COB emitter utilizes an all-new internal geometrical structure, creating a front surface just 40mm across. This design creates sharp shadows with a wide even beam spread and allows the use of a variety of Bowens mount accessories. The Orion 675 FS includes two reflector dishes (30 degrees & 55 degrees).
