Tokina Cinema has officially released its new 21mm T1.5 and 29mm T1.5 Vista Prime lenses which were first announced at the end of December 2021.
The new 21mm T1.5 and 29mm T1.5 increase the Vista Prime set out to a total of 11 lenses. The set now has the following focal lengths:
- 18mm T1.5
- 21mm T1.5
- 25mm T1.5
- 29mm T1.5
- 35mm T1.5
- 40mm T1.5
- 50mm T1.5
- 65mm T1.5
- 85mm T1.5
- 105mm T1.5
- 135mm T1.5
All of the lenses in the series feature a very fast T1.5 aperture and they cover full frame and larger sensors.
Both lenses share the renowned characteristics of the other Vista primes and they are claimed to create organic, yet highly detailed images. From my experience testing the Vista primes, they exhibit very low levels of distortion and chromatic aberration.
The 21mm T1.5 and 29mm T1.5 both feature a nine-bladed iris, 112mm front filter thread, and a 114mm outside diameter. The weight and size are similar to the other Vista primes making for easy use and fast camera balancing on-set.
The 21mm T1.5 has 18 Groups and 19 Elements, with a close focus of 36cm / 14.17″. The lens is 16.2cm / 6.37″ long in PL mount. It tips the scales at 2.33kg / 5.14 lbs.
The 29mm T1.5 has 18 Groups and 18 Elements, with a close focus of 35cm / 13.77″. It is 16.5cm / 6.49″ long in PL mount. It weighs 2.25kg / 4.96 lbs.
All of the focal lengths are available in interchangeable ARRI PL, EF, MFT, Sony E, and ARRI LPL mounts.
The Tokina Cinema Vista primes have been used to create the look of many popular television shows, including the award-winning Apple TV series Ted Lasso.
