The Vortex4 1’x1’ is Creamsources’s latest fixture. It is a 325W high-powered LED for film production. It is based on the same Vortex lighting platform, as the larger Vortex8. The Vortex4 allows for seamless integration with the Vortex8 for use in more complex lighting configurations.
The Vortex4 is essentially a smaller-sized version of the Vortex8. It features all of the same functionality in a smaller form factor. This is very reminiscent of what Litepanels did with its Gemini series, ARRI did with the SkyPanels, and Rotolight did with its Titan series.

Creamsource claims that the Vortex4 can output 7300 lux at a distance of 3m / 9.8′. This is a lot of light from a 1×1 fixture, but you need to remember that the Vortex4 has a very narrow beam angle of 20 degrees.
Vortex4 1×1 Key features

The Vortex4 weighs 9.76kg / 21.5lb and has physical dimensions of 380 x 380 x 121mm / 15” x 15” x 4.8” (Excluding Yoke). This does make it pretty heavy for a 1×1 fixture, although it is lighter than the Rotolight Titan X1 which tips the scales at 12.2 kg (including power supply, and the ARRI S30-C SkyPanel which weighs 10.3 kg (including power supply).

The Vortex4 utilizes the CreamOS 1.2.0 architecture and comes equipped with pre-programmed effects, color gels, multi-zone control, and the recently introduced FrameSync technology.
Just like its bigger brother the Vortex8, the Vortex4 features a narrow native beam angle of 20° and CCT range from 2200K to 15000K. It can be used as a hard punch light to bounce or push through diffusion, or as a soft light with the Creamsource diffuser or dome. This allows users to bring the fixture closer to the subject without the loss of space.
The Vortex4 is manufactured from precision-machined extrusions and high-strength die casting. It also uses technopolymer components and aerospace-grade sealing technologies. It is an IP65-rated water-resistant fixture that can be used in extreme conditions. The light features integrated internal power supplies that help to simplify rigging and cabling.
The Vortex4 makes use of ‘Vortex Connect’, a connectivity suite that includes LumenRadio TimoTwo built-in, Ethernet with sACN, Bluetooth, 5pin DMX, Wifi, USB type A, and a Creamsource Accessory port. This makes interaction possible between Vortex4 and various third-party instruments and protocols.
The fixture comes with a very impressive five-year registered warranty.

Yes, there are other lights out there that could also be considered competition such as the Aputure NOVA P300c, but I personally think the primary competition is from Litepanels, ARRI, and Rotolight.
