Newsshooter at Interbee 2013: Kowa Micro 4/3 lenses cine lenses from Dan Chung on Vimeo.
Kowa are a legendary Japanese optics maker who were well known in the past for their cine lenses. Now they are trying to re-enter the market with a new lens line in Micro 4/3 mount. At Interbee they are showing prototypes and revealed to us that they are based on existing high-grade industrial lenses.
The most interesting was the 8.5mm f2.8 corrected ultra-wide lens. Manual focus on the prototype was very smooth and the image quality looked good. The size, weight and feel of these lenses seemed just about right for me. We tested the prototype 8.5mm on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Defy G2 Brushless gimbal. You can see the results in the video above.
