Chauvet has announced that it has acquired Kino Flo. Kino Flo has been very quiet of late and it has been quite some time since they released any new products. This acquisition probably is the reason why.

This is an interesting move by Kino Flo, however, the LED lighting market has become increasingly saturated over the last 3-5 years. Competition is fierce and maybe this acquisition was the only way for Kino Flo to continue.

Who is Chauvet?

Entrepreneurs Albert and Berenice Chauvet started Chauvet as a distributor of rope lights back in 1990. They were operating from a warehouse in North Miami Beach, and they quickly became a developer and OEM supplier of entertainment lighting for the mobile DJ and club markets.

In 1998 they relocated to Hollywood, California and since that time they expanded to make their own LED lights and lighting systems that were mainly for the entertainment industry.

In 2017, they acquired ChamSys Ltd, the maker of the MagicQ industry-standard controllers.

Chauvet is well known in the entertainment industry, but they are now looking to expand further into TV or Film applications.

“This represents an important step for our company in our ongoing mission to expand our broadcast, studio and film lighting capabilities.” Kino Flo has a longstanding tradition of innovation and a commitment to excellence, which makes the company an excellent fit with Chauvet’s own philosophy. We are excited to invest in the future of Kino Flo and build on their technologies, while adding resources to accelerate product development and commercialization.”

Albert Chauvet, CEO of Chauve

Frieder Hochheim, the founder of Kino Flo will continue to lead Kino Flo going forward. Kino Flo will continue to serve its customers from its Burbank, California offices.
