CAME-TV has announced new compact and portable collapsible light stands that look like good options if you are traveling with smaller-sized lights.
Light stands are hardly exciting and collapsable design versions are nothing new, however, they are handy because you can put them into smaller sized Pelican cases and other bags.
The light stands collapse down to 46.5cm (18.3″) and when folded out they can be used at heights from 46cm-190cm (18.1-74.8″).
This folded length makes it slightly smaller than Westcott Compact Light Stand (7′) $54 USD and Manfrotto 5001B Nano Light Stand (Black, 6.2′) $69.99 USD which both have a folded length of 19.3″.
The stands weigh 1Kg (2.2 lb) and they can handle payload capacities of up to 2kg (4.4lb). Yes, they don’t weigh much, but the caveat to that is that they don’t support a lot of weight. They are really meant as lightweight travel options for supporting smaller-sized fixtures.
The CAME-TV light stands feature quick-release locking mechanisms and they come with a built-in 1/4-20″ screw.
I have used light stands with this type of design in the past and I have found that the folding mechanism does tend to get loose over time.
