Color Finale Transcoder allows you to import BRAW, ARRI RAW and CinemaDNG directly into Final Cut Pro.
Having to transcode your media first requires additional steps, and it can also be very time-consuming. If for example, you are capturing BRAW from a compatible camera or recording it externally, you need to use a third-party application to transcode files into a Final Cut compatible format before you can start editing.
The Color Finale Transcoder extension is claimed to give you an instant preview of your ingested video plus a full range of camera setting adjustments directly within the import interface. You can load multiple clips at once and choose the destination SDR or HDR color space.
Now, there isn’t any further information currently available about what the interface looks like or what the transcoding options are.
Just to be clear, even though it is claimed that you can view BRAW, ARRI RAW, and CinemaDNG files within FCP, you can’t work with them natively. Color Finale Transcoder is still a transcoder, however, it will be nice for users to be able to at least work within the confines of FCP without having to go back and forward between another program.
Transcoder software for RAW files is nothing new and you have been able to transcode various RAW formats and bring them into FCP for a long time, however, this looks like it may be the first piece of software that lets you do it directly within FCP.
