SmallRig has a new Portable Kit for the Canon C70. Canon C70 accessories have been very slow to trickle out and most of the products, just like this one aren’t even available to purchase yet.
The SmallRig Portable Kit for the C70 features a form-fitting design that is compact, lightweight, and practical.
What do you get?
The kit features:
- Top handle– allows handheld shooting and makes it easy to carry the camera
- Top plate– This shares the same locking part with the camera and supports the original handle
- Bottom plate– This comes with two 1/4”-20 threaded holes for mounting the Arca Swiss Plate of DJI RS2
- Built-in flat-head screwdriver and Allen Wrench
The top plate locks the camera firmly via one 1/4”-20 screw and a locating slot is there to prevent it from twisting. It shares the same locking block with the camera so you could also use the original Canon handle. There are two built-in cold shoes for mounting accessories. Multiple 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes are also included. The ARRI 3/8″ -16 locating holes allow you to attach the SmallRig ARRI Locating Handle.
The bottom plate fixes the camera via two 1/4”-20 screws to prevent twisting. It also features a large rubber pad to protect the camera from scratching surfaces, as well as multiple 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes to that can be used with different quick release plates.
On the bottom, there are two 1/4”-20 threaded holes for mounting the Arca Swiss Plate from the DJI RS2. You also get a built-in flat-head screwdriver.
It is also compatible with the SmallRig Dual Rod Clamp.
SmallRig also has a range of other accessories that let you attach a monitor on an additional side grip. While I am not personally a fan of solutions such as this, some users may find it to their liking.
Price & Availability
The SmallRig Portable Kit for Canon C70 is very affordable at just $109 USD. It won’t start shipping until the 22nd of March.
It is interesting to see that just like Wooden Camera, SmallRig has chosen not to go with a cage design. I personally think that a full cage doesn’t work with the C70 as the camera has too many buttons that become hard to access when full cages are used. The C70 is much more suited to having smaller parts placed on it to make it more usable.
