Laowa has released the new 50mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO lens for M4/3 cameras. The lens is the first with 2:1 magnification that enables greater-than-life size images.
Key features
- Maximum 2x Magnification
- Designed with APO
- Equipped with a CPU chip and motor (Auto Aperture)
- Wide magnification range (2:1 to infinity)
- Super Compact (3.1″ / 7.9cm) & Lightweight (8.4oz / 240g)
- Compatible for M4/3
While the lens can focus really close on subjects, with a minimum of 13.5cm, it can also focus to infinity, making it also suitable for other types of works like portraiture.
The lens is constructed from 14 elements in 10 groups, including three extra-low dispersion glass elements.
Maximum 2x Magnification
The lens features an impressive 2x magnification. Most other MFT macro lenses offer a 1x magnification.
Auto Aperture
The lens has electronics so the aperture can be controlled via the camera. Lens data is also recorded on EXIF with manual focus detection for automatically enabling focus magnifiers in cameras.
Apochromatic optical (APO) design
The lens has an APO design to minimise chromatic aberration. Laowa claims that the design greatly improves the sharpness, clarity and colour accuracy of photos.
Compact & Light
The 50mm lens is extremely compact and light in weight. It measures 3.1” (79mm) long and weighs only around 8.4oz (240g).
The lens extends on focus.
Pricing & Availability
The 50mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO retails for $399 USD and the first 100 orders will also receive a free flexible tripod.
