Omeneo Design has released its Primers EQX for the Sony FX9. What are Primers you may well be asking? Well, essentially they are just LUTS that are being called something else.
According to Omeneo Design, the Primers are ‘Professional imaging tools for production and post. Primers are per-sensor crafted in-depth image optimization tools, designed to technically empower the creative. The Cinematographer benefits from sensor-optimized signal distribution and more accurate scene light representation, affecting lighting and exposure decisions. The DIT benefits from consistent, accurate, and practical tools for a fast set workflow with improved imaging performance. A colorist benefits from powerful per-camera designed image shaping tools for high-quality first light.’
Omeneo Design goes onto to say that the benefits are:
- 1) Improved image performance > accuracy, separation, harmony, consistency
- 2) More natural image aesthetics
- 3) More practical shooting
- 4) More informative on-set monitoring, perceiving the outcome for sensor-optimal exposure and referent colorimetry
- 5) Reduced unpleasant surprises in post
- 6) Speeding up post-production
- 7) Reduced deterioration of footage in post
- 8) Maximum utilization of sensor DR (Primers EQX for 10 bit+ cameras)
Despite all of the marketing lingo being used, these primers are just LUT Cube files that you can load up into cameras, monitors, monitor/recorders, or NLE or software programs.
I’m not quite sure why they don’t just call a spade a spade. A LUT is still a LUT no matter what you call it. These Primers may well be better than other LUTs that are out there, but I haven’t personally tried them. - 5x 33^3 S-Log3/S-Gamut3.Cine > rec.709 cube files for camera preview
