Fujinon is developing two new 8K TV broadcast lenses, the HP66X15.2ESM, and the HP12X7.6ERD.
Both lenses are in direct response to future customer demands for 8K outside broadcast lenses. Now, there is no such thing as 8K and 4K lenses, when Fujinon is referring to 8K lenses they are referring to lenses that have been specifically made to resolve 8K images. Recording 8K video, which has four times the resolution of 4K video, requires lenses with exceptionally advanced optical performance.
Mass 8K broadcasting is still a long way off and as far as I am aware, Japanese broadcaster NHK is the only company that is currently doing any form of 8K delivery over satellite.
8K over a 5G network was tested during the Basketball Worl Cup that was held in China last year. Fujinon 8K lenses were used during that production.
The HP66X15.2 and HP12X7.6 lenses feature bayonet mounts targeting three
1.25” sensors for ultra-high 8K resolution. This is bolstered by Fujifilm’s unique multi-layer coating (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating), which boosts the rate of light transmittance, making it possible to deliver vivid color reproduction, as well as high dynamic range (HDR)-based rich tonal gradation. Both lenses have a nine-blade aperture for natural bokeh and are equipped with 16-bit encoder
Fujinon HP66X15.2ESM (HP66X15.2)
The Fujinon HP66X15.2ESM is a box lens with the world’s longest 8K
focal length of 1,000mm. It also has the world’s highest zoom magnification of 66x.
The HP66X15.2 also features the latest high-performance optical image stabilization mechanism which is important when you are on the long end of the zoom range.
The HP66X15.2 is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2020.
Fujinon HP12X7.6ERD (HP12X7.6)
The Fujinon HP12X7.6ERD is a portable ENG/EFP lens covering a range of 7.6mm to 91mm. This gives it the world’s widest 8K angle of view at 93.3 degrees.
The HP12X7.6ERD is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2020.
The 8K series from Fujinon is now comprised of seven lenses designed for two camera formats. The 8K 1.25” Three Sensor Bayonet-Mount Series includes the HP66x15.2ESM box lens, the HP12x7.6ERD portable lens, the HP7.5×8.5SM box lens, and the HP11x22.5SM box lens.
The 8K PL Mount Series includes the SK3x12SM portable lens, the SK7.5×19.7SM portable lens, and the SK20x35ESM box lens.
