CAME-TV has released a new budget matte box that retails for $188 USD. The matte box even comes with a carbon fiber top flag.
This new matte box has been made primarily for mirrorless and smaller sized cameras.
It has been designed to fit on any lens that has up to a 95mm front diameter. Included in the kit are a 77-95mm adapter and 4 step-up/step-down rings that allow users to attach smaller diameter lenses to the 77-95mm adapter.
The 4 step-up/step-down rings are:
- 62mm-77mm
- 67mm-77mm
- 72mm-77mm
- 82mm-77mm
The matte box can only take a single 4″x4″ or 4″x 5.65″ filter.
What is interesting for users of small cameras is that there is 3/8″ and 1/4″ threads and a cold shoe adapter on top of the matte box. Although, I’m not sure I would want to be placing extra weight on the front of a matte box that is being placed on a stills lens.
CAME-TV lists the dimensions of the matte box, but they don’t list how much it weighs.

Competition
The CAME-TV Matte Box is facing tough competition from the new Tiltaing Mini Matte Box that costs just $99 USD and offers the same level of functionality.
The Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom 4 x 5.65″/4 x 4″ Ultra Lightweight 2-Stage Clip-On Matte Box is another option that is available for $379.95 USD, although you need to pay extra if you want a top flag and adapter rings.
The Wooden Camera Zip Box Pro 4 x 5.65″ Matte Box (95mm, Clamp-On) is $399 USD.
