Edelkrone has just announced the JibONE, an app-controlled smart jib that can fit inside a backpack.
JibONE is made primarily for smaller sized DSLR and mirrorless camera setups.
You can use JibONE vertically to create incline shots, or horizontally to get slider-like shots. You can also use it diagonally at 22.5 degrees intervals to mix both axes (Pan and Tilt axes of JibONE are coupled.)

JibONE allows for 50 cm (1.64ft ) of motion in any direction when fully extended, which is not that much. The motion can be looped for interview shots. The speed of the travel can be adjusted:
Min. cont. speed 50 cm in 140 sec
Max. cont. speed 50 cm in 8 sec
JibONE can maintain a forward-facing camera angle while moving vertically, horizontally or diagonally at any angle. By using a tripod head you can set the pan and tilt angle of your camera and JibONE will maintain that angle.
You can manually adjust the positions of JibONE (and HeadPLUS). IIf you don’t want to use the remote control, you can program your camera motions with just your hands.
What does it weigh & how much weight can it take?
The JibONE weighs 12 lb / 5.5 kg (with a single 2.2lb / 1kg counterweight). The recommended maximum payload is 11 lb / 5 kg or less. What you need to factor in is that if you run anywhere near the maximum payload you will need to use additional counterweights, so realistically, if your camera package weighs 3kg and you are using a head that weighs 2kg, your total weight for the whole set up including the JibONE and counterweights will be 14.5kg.
Top or bottom mounting
You can attach any tripod head, edelkrone HeadPLUS or HeadONE straight up or upside down based on your needs. Upside down mounting is a nice option for getting low angle shots.
There is a 3/8″-16 mounting port on the bottom and a 3/8″-16 mounting screw on the camera plate.
How do you set it up?
No tools or assembly are required. It only takes a few minutes to get set up and be ready to start filming. JibONE has a locking mechanism to make it immobile so you don’t need to disassemble the system to relocate it. Although, Edelkrone states that movement across long distances is not recommended.
Counterweights
You can slide JibONEs counterweight(s) forward and backward to balance the system. Every counterweight is 2.2 lb (1kg) and you can attach up to 4 to balance payloads up to 11 lb (5kg). 4 Counterweights are included with JibONE.
How is it powered?
The JibONE can use x2 LP-E6 type battery or x2 NP-F type battery (Batteries and battery brackets are sold separately., or it can be run off mains power.
Edelkrone claims that with a single 28.8 Wh Canon LP-E6 battery the JibONE can operate for up to 2 hours (continuously at full speed).

The JibONE has been designed with portability in mind, and it will fit inside the Edelkrone Backpack.
Compatible with HeadPLUS & HeadONE
JibONE Works with Edelkrone’s HeadPLUS & HeadONE. Having a motorized head on JibONE enables you to automate and easily program panning and tilting while your camera is moving. This will also allow you to create parallax shots, time-lapses and other forms of camera motions The devices pair instantly in the background and they will all work with the same App so you can control all of the devices together.

The basic JibONE package retails for $1,299 USD. Different configurations can cost you up to $2,798 USD.
Thoughts
The JibONE looks like an interesting product. It certainly does have its limitations, and although it is quite portable, you still need to carry around quite a large backpack that is going to be heavy once you factor in the counterweights.
I’ve never had great experiences with smaller jibs as I find it is very difficult to control the smoothness and inertia. Maybe, the JibONE will change my views on small-sized jibs.
