Core SWX is the latest company to offer a V-lock or AB Gold Mount battery power solution for the new Sony FX9.
The plate mounts directly to the back of the Sony PXW-FX9. The milled aluminum product inserts into the battery slot of the camera and also attaches to the top of the camera (with included screw hardware) to provide a secure platform for mounting larger V-lock or AB Gold Mount batteries directly onto the FX9 camera.
It has a 19.5v DC output with a visual low battery warning LED and a 4-pin XLR DC input for hot-swapping between external and on-board power. In addition, it’s equipped with two power taps to power additional accessories.
A USB firmware update port on the rear ensures future compatibility with camera firmware updates.

Why is the AB Gold Mount higher than the V-Mount version?
The gold mount version is a little higher due to the way gold mounts are with the battery case going lower than the bottom stud, so if a battery pack larger than a mini size is used, the camera will still be stable on a flat surface. Whereas a v-mount connection is at the bottom of the pack, therefore no need to worry about that.
Why would you choose this over the Hawkwoods solution?
I asked Core SWX to tell us why this would make a better alternative to the version that Hawkwoods is selling. They told me:
“The advantage of this over the Hawkwoods is that it has the low battery warning LED, an XLR input to allow for hot-swapping between external and onboard power, and it’s more robust since it’s made with aluminum whereas the Hawkwoods version is made of plastic. The bigger size than Hawkwoods is due to making room for those features that Hawkwoods doesn’t have. As for the weight, 1.2 lbs still isn’t heavy and most users prefer it to provide a better balanced rig, but to each their own.”
