In November 2024, Fujifilm announced the development of the GFX ETERNA. Fujifilm’s first cinema camera. It’s no surprise that they are entering the cinema camera space, given their significant presence in broadcast and cinema lenses, as well as their photography lineup.
The GFX ETERNA will feature the large format GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor, which is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor, combined with the X-Processor 5 high-speed image processing engine. Fujifilm states this pairing enables filmmakers to create rich, true-to-life visuals with enhanced flexibility in post-production. GFX ETERNA will also feature a native G mount with a removable PL adapter.
In anticipation of the availability of FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA, expected later this year, the company announced 10 new specs that the forthcoming camera will feature:

- Compatibility with TASCAM XLR Microphone Adapter Handle Accessory: Support for expanded audio input compatibility
- Supporting Adobe Frame.io Camera to Cloud: Utilize built-in network interfaces (WiFi or Ethernet) for internet connection to authenticate to a Frame.io project and upload files securely to central location for immediate accessibility
The article has been updated with new, more specific features in the announced update. Open Gate is going to be well-received as well as anamorphic support. We will have more information on these new features from Fujifilm at Cine Gear 2025. The pricing is still a big question. The cinema camera space is fairly crowded, but the ETERNA looks like it is carving its own path with the large format sensor. It is definitely an interesting camera.
