At NAB 2025 in Las Vegas, a new company called PIXBOOM was showing its upcoming Spark high-speed camera.

The camera is capable of capturing 4K at up to 1000fps, and 2K at up to 1800fps.

It utilizes a proprietary high-sensitivity S35 BSI global shutter sensor that is not made by Sony.

The Spark takes proprietary SSD drives with capacities of up to 2.4TB, so it can record for long periods of time. Currently, it records to a proprietary RAW format (.pxbl) and you need to use a Mac/PC app to convert the footage to Cinema DNG sequences; however, once it launches, it will be able to record in ProRes flavors as well.

You can control the camera via the integrated 3.5″ touchscreen or through an app.

The camera body is made out of high-strength aluminum alloy, and it can be powered via a V-mount battery or through a DC input.

There is a 12G-SDI port that can output up to 4K 60p, a Sync port, HDMI, EXT port, DC battery Input, and a USB-C.

The camera will be available with either a locking Sony E-mount or PL mount. The Sony E mount does not support electronic communication so there is no AF, stabilization, etc.

Pricing & Availability

From what I understand, the camera will be launched officially on Kickstarter at the end of June.

There is currently no indication about pricing, but from what I was told, it will be more affordable than existing options that are already on the market.
