FUJIFILM has announced the FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 2/3-inch sensor broadcast camera servo zoom. It provides the highest-in-class 30x zoom covering 7.8-234mm in a compact and lightweight design, measuring 190mm and weighing 1.8kg. It supports virtual and remote production with a newly developed drive unit.
According to FUJIFILM, in recent years, due to the rapid expansion of video streaming platforms, the amount of video content, such as news, documentaries, sports, and music concerts, being produced has increased. As a result, there is a growing demand for equipment that can streamline filming operations without compromising on image quality or functionality within limited production budgets.

In 2019 FUJIFIM released the FUJINON LA16x8BRM-XB1A which was popular due to its compact and lightweight design, measuring 163.8mm and weighing 1.6kg. It also offered excellent optical performance, and it was affordable, costing $3,849 USD.

The new LA30x7.8 builds on the success of the LA16x8BRM-XB1A, and along with offering an increased focal range, it also has a newly developed drive unit that features high-resolution 16-bit encoders for extremely accurate position detection in virtual and remote production.

The lens is claimed to achieve a maximum speed of 1.0 sec and a minimum speed of 120 sec when zooming from wide to tele end. This versatile range helps to capture fast-moving subjects during live sports broadcasts while enabling ultra-slow zooms during live music performances, etc.

By utilising the latest optical simulation technology and suppressing various types of aberrations, the lens achieves 4K optical performance across the entire zoom range. In addition, Fujifilm’s unique multi-layer coating, “HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating)”, is claimed to boast high light transmittance and accurate colour reproduction.
A single button on the lens provides an electronic flange back adjustment. The system provides a faster and more efficient adjustment than the manual process.
The macro function allows for closer than M.O.D. focus up to 0.05m from the front of the lens by sliding the unique focus ring forward. It enables the operator to film the extreme close-ups without letting go of their focusing hand.
