Angelbird Technologies today released its new, sleek SSD2GO PKT pocket-sized SSDs. These SSDs can be used in several ways, from on-the-go storage for video and photography to mounting on a camera that is compatible with external drives. All in a rugged and modern style that Angelbird is known for.
The SSD2GO PKT comes in two sizes.

Solid Connect
Angelbird has featured its Solid Connect design on card readers and SSDD drives for many years. The USB-C cable end is inserted into the drive instead of just being plugged into the port. This secure connection point within the SSD ensures stable, uninterrupted data transfer and minimizes cable wear and tear. The only potential downside is that the included cable is designed for the drive, and off-the-shelf USB-C cables won’t fit nice and snug or at all. Just don’t lose it!
The included SSD2GO cable is a 32 cm (12.6 in) high-speed, ultra-flexible USB-C 4.0 cable wrapped in a durable, color-matched fabric. When they say it’s ultra-flexible, they mean it.
Write-Protect-Switch
The SSD2GO PKT comes with a handy safety feature. The Write-Protect-Switch prevents you from unintentionally deleting, formatting, or transferring unwanted data to the SSD. When you want to use the drive for transferring, flip the switch for safety. This unique Read-Only mode ensures data safety, providing that extra layer. When you use a drive that doesn’t offer this feature, the computer’s operating system will write data files on a drive. Whether you want it to or not, by utilizing the read-only switch, no files can be written, and all the files on the drive are safe.
Three modes, indicated by a built-in LED, give a clear picture of the Write-Protect-Switch’s operational status:
- White LED: Shows the SSD is connected to host but Write-Protect function is not engaged.
- Orange LED: Signals that the Write-Protect function is engaged, activating the SSD’s Read-Only mode.
- Flashing LED: Indicates that data transfer is in progress.

Speed Test
I tested the speed on my M1 Max MacBook Pro directly into the Thunderbolt port, using Blackmagic Design Speed Test Software set to 5GB stress test settings.
It is important to note that no Mac products support the new USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 standard. They only support USB 3.2 Gen 2, which is one lane at 10Gbps (or 1.25GB/s). Unfortunately I don’t have a PC to test with, so I’m limited to 10Gbps speed.
Write: 899.7 MB/s
Read: 936.1 MB/s
Based on the speeds, you can read and write Blackmagic RAW 12K DCI60, ProRes 422 HQ 12K DCI24, and H.264 8K DCI60.
It took 1 minute and 17 seconds to transfer 67 GB of media to the drive.
Mounting Bracket
With the popularity of using SSD drives for recording directly from a camera, the SSD2GO PKT can also take advantage, and Angelbird makes it easier to attach the drive with its Mounting Bracket.
The mounting bracket is very compact and made of metal. It’s lightweight but fits securely and has a low profile that matches the SSD2GO PKT design. The included flexible cable shines here as it’s not stiff and easy to tuck away on the camera.

Angelbird’s Stable Stream guarantees stable, consistent performance across all modes and throughout the entire capacity of the SSD.
