Freefly Systems has announced the new Astro Max. The Astro Max is Freefly’s latest industrial drone, built for performance with double the payload capacity and 60% more thrust.

For maximum flight time, you want to run the largest props possible. Astro Max uses 21-inch props on a drone body that’s only 14 inches square. That means that 96% of the total area is props. So why doesn’t every drone do this? Well, it’s hard. As you increase prop size it becomes more and more difficult to accelerate and decelerate the prop. Ever notice how FPV drones use absurdly small props? They trade prop size / flight time for control bandwidth. On Astro Max, Freely Systems spent years developing motor drive HW and control algorithms that allow them to have huge, slow-spinning props with incredible stability. This allows Astro long flight times, incredible precision, and super low noise footprint.
User-defined lenses and the ability to add thermal, dual thermal, or laser rangefinders give this the Blue / NDAA-approved payload.
