The ALEXA 35 has been used by many of the world’s most respected natural history cinematographers, and now ARRI has officially released a plate specifically to support them: the SAM-10. This all-in-one support plate allows tool-less support of the Canon CN20x50 50-1000mm and other long lenses, without the need for the significantly heavier combination of a bridge plate, rods, rod support, and lens support.
We first saw the SAM-10 at CineGear this year.
It offers a rod-free set up and it only weighs 640g / 22.57 oz. That makes it considerably lighter than running something like the Compact Bridge Plate CBP-5 (19mm).
The SAM-10 attaches directly to the BUD-1 and it will interface with any standard dovetail. It features 3/8″ screws along the bottom.
At the front, it has a mounting screw that goes into the lens support of lenses like the Canon CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 zoom. The mounting screw also has a reasonable range of adjustability.
